Cold and warm denaturation of proteins.

چکیده
We introduce a simplified protein model where the water degrees of freedom appear explicitly (although in an extremely simplified fashion). Using thismodel we are able to recover both the warm and the cold protein denaturation within a single framework, while addressing important issues about the structure of model proteins.

Cold and Warm Denaturation of Hydrophobic Polymers
We introduce a polymer model where the transition from swollen to compact configurations is due to interactions between the monomers and the solvent. These interactions are the origin of the effective attractive interactions between hydrophobic amminoacids in proteins. We find that in the low and high temperature phases polymers are swollen, and there is an intermediate phase where the most fav...
متن کاملPutting proteins back into water
We introduce a simplified protein model where the solvent (water) degrees of freedom appear explicitly (although in an extremely simplified fashion). Using this model we are able to recover the thermodynamic phenomenology of proteins over a wide range of temperatures. In particular we describe both the warm and the cold protein denaturation within a single framework, while addressing important ...
متن کاملComparative Study on the Conformational Mobility of Muscle Lactate Dehydrogenase from Loach Fish Adapted to Different Temperatures Using Differential Scanning Microcalorimetry
Differential scanning microcalorimetry was used to assess the conformational stability of muscle lactate dehydrogenase (M4-LDH) from skeletal muscle of Misgurnus fossilis (loach) fishes adapted to low (the “cold” enzyme) and high (the “warm” enzyme) environmental temperatures. It was found that the denaturation temperature Td was the same for both forms of lactate dehydrogenase, whereas the den...
متن کاملCooperative cold denaturation: the case of the C-terminal domain of ribosomal protein L9.
Cold denaturation is a general property of globular proteins, but it is difficult to directly characterize because the transition temperature of protein cold denaturation, T(c), is often below the freezing point of water. As a result, studies of protein cold denaturation are often facilitated by addition of denaturants, using destabilizing pHs or extremes of pressure, or reverse micelle encapsu...
متن کاملWARM TO COLD WATER CARBONATE FORMATION DURING THE ORDOVICIAN AND THE JURASSIC: EXAMPLES FROM IRAN, AUSTRALIA, AND ENGLAND
Isotope data from bulk carbonates, micrite, marine calcite cements, non-skeletal grains and brachiopods indicate deposition of a wide spectrum of warm to cold water carbonates during the Ordovician and the Jurassic. This isotopic interpretation is supported by warm to cold climatic models proposed for the Ordovician and the Jurassic. These carbonates formed during the Greenhouse mode (condition...
